What is an Audiologist?
An Audiologist is a university trained health care professional who specializes in hearing to assist in improving our quality of life. Audiologists specialize in examining, diagnosing, and treating disorders of the auditory (hearing) and vestibular (balance) systems. They assist in the identification of related medical conditions that may need medical and surgical treatment; prevention of hearing loss and falls or accidents related to balance dysfunction; develop and implement programs to protect the public against noise induced hearing loss caused by work or recreation; and specialize in hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems, assistive devices and aural rehabilitation. Why has my doctor referred me to an Audiologist? Your doctor has become aware of a potential hearing problem that requires the professional attention of an Audiologist. Audiologists are trained specifically in the testing and evaluation of your hearing and are licensed to provide solutions to assist in helping you hear better.
